Michigan hints that it may want a break from Notre Dame
Remember back when where we said that one of the big losers of a 9 game Big Ten conference schedule would likely be Notre Dame?
That popular and lucrative (and mostly annual) meeting with Michigan may be going away for a while. It will be interesting to see how often Michigan State and Purdue take similar breaks.

Purdue is locked in for awhile.
They are on the schedule officially through 2021.

That's too bad
because I’ve long felt the best way to force ND into the league is by taking away the guaranteed games against BCS-level regional foes.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.

Those can be broken
It happens all the time.

What’s the difference, right? Right? Er…yeah, never mind.
You see what I did there? Yeeeaaaaaahhhh.
The Domers Don't Mind
They are a national, historic and incredibly relevant program and will have no problem filling that whole in the schedule with a reputable foe.
Right?
In reality, this would be just another step towards the rotting in the Big East where they belong.

Texas will replace Mich in the ND series for a while

Actually I think Texas is replacing MSU in the schedule.
MSU is taking an ND ordered “time-out” in ‘13 and ’14 (we’re filling that hole with WVU) as well as ’20 and ’21.
Interestingly, when ND announced that they were looking at taking a break from their “traditional series” with UM and MSU…MSU was the only one who came off the schedule.
Hmm. I wonder why? MSU has played ND more times than anyone not named USC, Navy or Purdue.
Since the last “break” between MSU and ND ended in 1996, here is ND’s record against each of the Big Ten schools regularly on their schedule:
vs. PU 8-5
vs. UM 5-6
vs. MSU 4-9
Wonder why ND needed a break from MSU?
Northwestern used to play ND with some regularity and has more games against than Michigan. Northwestern beat them in ‘95 for the first time in 30+ years, hasn’t been on the schedule since.
Reality has a little-known Northwestern bias

Don’t we all want a break from Notre Dame?

NBC wishes they could hint at this.
Maybe the Comcast deal will kill that contract too….
When asked why he went for 5, Tate responded "..because I couldn't go for 6...".

Don't get too excited
I have a feeling this isn’t going to be anything different than those two year hiatuses they’ve had on other occasions in this series.
I thought it was in the 'contract'...
to take off 2 years, to be decided later, between any point of when it was announced and when it was up?
