Big Ten Bowl Season: Not as bad as we thought.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. That's all we hear as Big Ten fans about our teams. Especially after bowl season. But who's to talk? I'll give you some quick stats that are not hard to find and impossible to prove wrong next time you run into an asshole who gives you a hard time.

To a Big 12 fan:

Bowl record: 3-5 / (same as Big Ten)

BCS bowl record: 1-0 (most overmatched in history of BCS) / (Big Ten made 2 BCS bowls)

Record against Big Ten: 1-2 (two losses came against opponents with worse record/ranking)

To an SEC fan:

Bowl record: 4-5 (3 of 4 wins over teams with worse record/ranking [with National Championship to be played])

BCS bowl record: 0-1 (Loss against Big Ten)

Record against Big Ten: 3-1 (2 of 3 wins over teams with worse record/ranking)

To an Pac-10 fan:

Bowl record: 2-1 (least amount of eligible bowl teams out of any AQ conference with 4)

BCS bowl record: 1-0 (BCS Natl. Championship TBD)

ALL of us Big Ten fans can say:

Bowl record: 3-5 (3rd most bowl appearances out of 11 conferences behind SEC and ACC and tied for 2nd for most bowl games being the underdog with 4 [tied with SEC and behind ACC with 7])

BCS bowl record: 1-1 (One loss from higher ranked, undefeated team; most likely to be 2nd in final poll)

Other notes: Biggest upset of bowl season (any conference): Unranked Iowa over #12 Mizzou

4 of 5 losses were to teams considered to be better (Michigan St. / Alabama only exception, although many would have considered Michigan State overrated and Alabama underrated)

Ohio State broke 9 game SEC bowl drought in BCS bowl win vs. Arkansas

All 8 bowl teams boosted or maintained their record above .500

Two 11-win teams and one 12-win team at the end

Well there you have it. The automatic-qualifying BCS teams went a combined 21-24. That's a losing record if you can't do the math yourself. So it wasn't just the Big Ten. The Big Ten had some of the toughest bowls of any conference and still managed a big upset, a BCS win against an SEC team, and a close game in the Rose Bowl against an undefeated #3 ranked team. But, better luck next year so we don't have to do this again.
