Leach to Wazzu
OK, so it's not directly B1G related, but Mike Leach, everybody's favorite pirate coach, has apparently signed on to go to Pullman, Washington.
It's indirectly related in this way: the idea of Mike Leach in Champaign scared the bejeezus out of me. Maybe they'll get another coach as good (or better), but Leach at Illinois could have been scary.

Kansas fans thought that they had a shot at Leach, but
I assume Leach didn’t want to be Bill Self’s caddy.
Some question whether UCLA
talked with him or not. Folks at Bruin Nation not happy about this development.
Good to see The Pirate back in action, And not in the Big 10.

UCLA is so effed
there’s a lot of talk out here about Peterson coming to UCLA. I just don’t see it though.

Fat chance
Peterson isn’t going to UCLA to be little brother in his own city… He turned down same $3mil (2x his Boise salary) last year to coach Stanford
agreed. no chance.

Lubbock has no trees.
It’s a wash.

Alot of schools missed out
Leech could have done some good at either Illinois or Arizona State.
Either Wazzu acted real fast, or gave him a bunch of cash becuase he could have done better.
So I tried the Barbasol and Rotel dip and I was very dissapointed!
Could he?
Or did his lawsuit against ESPN still make him too toxic?

I can see the administration at Pullman going

People here in AZ are clamoring for Tressell @ ASU
If Tressell can get at least thought of, I cant see why Leech would be any worse.
So I tried the Barbasol and Rotel dip and I was very dissapointed!
Just because the fans want him
doesn’t mean the administration would touch him with a ten yard poll.

Can I be relieved and kind of disappointed at the same time
Echo what Bama said about Leach in Illinois—yikes. Wazzou just became my favorite Pac-12 team.
Arrrrrgh, ye scurvy dog!
Some people just need a high five. In the face. With a chair.
It won't happen next year
but I really look forward to the day that he rolls up the score on Kiffin

"Go hard. I mean, like relentless. I want a bunch of coaches that coach like their hair’s on fire, and I want a football team that goes for four to six seconds (per play) with relentless effort." OSU Coach Urban Meyer.
My fave comment from CougCenter included this...

Subsequent comments included the genius plan to add this into the rotation of College Gameday flags.
Thank god Leach is not in Champaign or Happy Valley
I bet every defensive coordinator in this conference cracked open a beer in relief

PAC 12 is putting together a nice new coach hire list
Leech, RichRod and rumor that UCLA is going hard for Peterson. I am sure ASU will completely under-achieve and hire a nobody, but the buzz for next season will be high for the PAC

Off topic, but
the Big 10 is absolutely rolling the ACC in basketball this week.

Other than Michigan crapping the bed, it's been a pretty nice Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
Also, love the sig.
"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'"
Here's what I think...
The extra revenue from Big Ten Network is going to finally pay off. Illinois will hire a big name coach, and Penn State will throw as much money as is needed to find someone to take over (not that PSU needed BTN money, but it certainly helps).
Does anyone realize the SEC has been running in the red? Most of their athletic departments are running heavily negative, and it’s only a matter of time before that starts catching up with those teams. I know Auburn has been especially running a large athletic dept deficit, and the fact that they will not recoup that with a BCS bowl is going to hurt them financially. Granted, most athletic departments run a small deficit or barely break even, but the B1G athletic budgets are in MUCH better shape than their SEC counterparts.
by TheHumbleBuckeye on Nov 30, 2011 11:23 PM CST reply actions
I'm not sure how Auburn not making the BCS is a negative.
I believe the SEC splits the BCS money up evenly between all the conference schools, just like the B1G does. Only way it hurts is if the fans don’t like the bowl they go to and the school takes a bath with all the unsold tickets from the required allotment.
To be fair
Auburn had a large, one-time payment on its books last year that wasn’t there this year.
I ate the blue ones ... they taste like burning.

As an Illinois fan
I’m highly disappointed that our AD either couldn’t land or didn’t want Leach. Would have been a fantastic hire
They have two liter bottles now? To think I spent all that time demanding a liter!
I dont know...
Lubbuck might be a hell hole, but it is a hell hole in the middle a very fertile recruiting ground. There is not a lot of talent with in 5 hours of Pullman, he is going to have to recruit Cali and I dont know if guys from SoCal will be thrilled about going to Pullman.
He would have been better off seeing if he could get the ASU or Illini job
So I tried the Barbasol and Rotel dip and I was very dissapointed!
His offensive schemes are designed to level the playing field....
against superior talent. That is why he was so successful in the Big 12 South. He doesn’t need elite athletes. He will be fine.
Ever Grateful. Ever True.
Some kids will go there just to play for him
It’s the value of a reputation. Plus, there is enough talent in California that if he gets the 5th or 10th best recruit in the state, that’s still a fine recruit.
Paul -
Go Sparty! Go Bucks!
a bit of an understatement
top ten in cali are some of the best recruits in the nation. I wish the B1G could get a foothold there
