Fickell, Chryst on Pitt Short List
It looks like two prominent B1G coaches are on the short list for the vacant Pitt Panther gig.
Luke Fickell, OSU's former interim head coach who will be a co-defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, interviewed a couple days ago and reportedly 'has interest' in the job.
Wisconsin OC Paul Chryst, who has been on the short list for a couple head coaching jobs, including Pitt last season, has also interviewed/will be interviewed, and Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez is reportedly lobbying Pitt boosters for Chryst.
It looks like one of these guys have a very good shot at getting this job.

A guy who never beat penn state would be PERFECT for a head coaching job at Pitt ;)

Forget the 409 wins and 2 national championships. Joe Paterno helped mold thousands of young men into productive members of our society.

Chryst can have it...
OSU needs Fickell. He should stay where he is.
I hear Brad Childress is available to replace him

He might not be a bad option, truth be told
"Go hard. I mean, like relentless. I want a bunch of coaches that coach like their hair’s on fire, and I want a football team that goes for four to six seconds (per play) with relentless effort." OSU Coach Urban Meyer.
Fickell is so damn overrated.
Who wouldn’t want to hire someone with no real coordinating experience and one sub-par year of being a head coach?
Chryst has nine years of being a highly successful coordinator on BCS teams (2 at Oregon State, 7 at Wisconsin).
Fickell is a broski who likely shotgunned keystone while Heacock designed defensive schemes. He’s accomplished nothing outside of the confines of Ohio State, and even then looked overwhelmed when put in charge of something.
I don’t see how this is difficult.
What's difficult
is for a successful big school coordinator to roll the dice on being HC at Pitt.
It hasn’t gone well for most of those who tried it. Wannstedt had some success and was run out by those who wanted more. They ran off Harris who was a little over .500 (but he probably had something to do with it) and they ran off Gottfried who was at least moderately successful. The last two guys to leave the job happy were Majors and Sherrill.
It’s a tough audience there. It’s a good opportunity for a guy like Mario C., coming from a school that doesn’t get national attention. Chryst may want it because AQ HC job offers don’t come your way every day, but he will probably get another if he waits. Fickell ain’t ready.
