I was going to post the exact same thing...

Sounds like they rescheduled Appalachian State looking for some revenge...

…would be hilarious if it backfired on them.

So...
[BH: Translation…vengeance is a dish best served seven years later.]

… and two new coaches later. (At least… 2014 is a long way away for Brady Hoke and a Michigan fanbase expecting instant results.)

by TDozer on Aug 25, 2011 4:40 PM CDT reply actions

I’m not really sure of the revenge aspect of this. I mean of course it played a part in scheduling it but none of the players/coaches involved in the 2007 game will be in the 2014 game, and even for the fans the game would be a distant memory.

Michigan’s non conference game only sees the occasional FCS opponent and is usually just MAC fodder. The fact they rescheduled ASU reeks of them wanting a win versus them.

I was at The Shoe during this game...

…and saw the end of it on the big screens at Hineygate. The schadenfreude was palpable.

Lol, what?

Sorry Michigan, even beating App State years later wont make the pain go away.

This, pretty much this

Michigan has everything to lose and nothing to gain from this. You App State? Congratulations, you beat a FCS team. You lose. Well…

by mikjones24 on Aug 25, 2011 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I've heard

that by 2014, they’ll be part of the Big East.

YES, I know…not that much better, but at least a slight bit more respectable. But I 110% agree with you…everything to lose, nothing to gain.

by GoWings2008 on Aug 26, 2011 10:08 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

NO upside to this whatsoever. Don’t know why they even did this.

by GoWings2008 on Aug 26, 2011 10:03 AM CDT up reply actions

This is hilarious

but I can also see exactly why their AD did this: fan interest will be unusually high for a game that frankly should be a blowout. No other cupcake could draw like ASU will.

This is it.

I think Brandon is trying to get Michigan as much attention as possible with the schedule. I could be mistaken, but I think the only nonconference games that he is responsible for that have been scheduled since he became AD are: Alabama and Air Force in 2012, and now Appy State. It probably won’t be possible to keep that up, but impressive having Air Force, of the three, as the lowest profile game so far.

by yahwrite on Aug 26, 2011 9:58 AM CDT up reply actions

As an

AFA grad, I take exception to that last statement… :-) Ask Oklahoma how low profile AF was last season.

by GoWings2008 on Aug 26, 2011 10:06 AM CDT up reply actions

I saw this :-)

So I think you know where I was going. But to clarify, by profile I mean the amount of media and message board attention paid to the game. I think AF is dangerous and far above what I was expecting in 2012, especially being sandwiched between Bama and ND on the schedule. As a fan I am happy to see Michigan challenging themselves ooc.

by yahwrite on Aug 26, 2011 4:29 PM CDT up reply actions

agreed.

If UM does well with that OOC schedule, they will have really earned it. Bama, AF, ND…no gimmes in there at all. And I knew where you were going, just getting a jab in there.

Next year, AF will be starting a new QB, so they won’t be the same team that’ll be on the field next year. But they seem to find good guys to fill the spot year in, year out. Looking forward to that game a lot…

ASU is looking to jump up to FBS

Reports are they’ll get $850K for the game if they’re still FCS, and $1 mil if they’re FBS by then (I’m 100 miles from Boone, and App State football gets just as much press as the ACC schools).

In Michigan’s defense, that ‘07 ASU team did go on to win its 3rd straight FCS championship and featured 6 future NFL players. Husker geek must also mention that it was coached by a member of Tom Osborne’s original staff.

Still, BAAA-HAAAA-HAAAA!

Same screen name since AOL- 'cause like many Nebraska fans, I'm stuck in the '90s.

As I understand it

they’re waiting until they get a direct invite from C-USA instead of jumping as an independent and have turned down an immediate offer for the Sun Belt.

In the name of the Woody, the Bo, and the Mustache Ride. Amen.

Would make sense.

Not big enough to get into the ACC/Big East and going to the MAC wouldn’t exactly help them build their program.

by Bryan Steedman on Aug 26, 2011 12:10 AM CDT up reply actions

And by ‘not big enough’ I mean as of now. No FCS squad would be able to hit the transition. But from what I’ve heard is App. St. is pretty big from their respected area.
