Hmmm
Two games against rum-dums and Russell is suddenly Tim Tebow. First, let’s see what he can do against a defensive that offers more resistance than a tackling sled.

Could be worse
He could have had a stat line like this against a defense that offers as much resistance as a tackling sled:
10-21, 219 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT.
Angelo: Right….so anyways Jay, I’m sure you understand that we needed to make this move and I wanna wish you the best of luck.
Cutler: (Swoops bangs out of eyes by throwing his head back) Whatever, I don’t need this team or you.

A Couple of Retorts
1. We aren’t printing up shirts, that’s…the…point.
2. You conveniently left of Martinez’s 150+ yards rushing.
3. Fresno, while no world beater, is miles ahead of UNLV and Oregon State
I guess I can’t relate, though, seeing that my team has actually had dynamic quarterbacks in the past.

Me: What do you mean Marquette hates us in football?
Other UW grad from Milwaukee: Yeah, they hate us everything.
Me: But I thought we only hated each other for one night in December, then closed ranks and cheered on the rest of the state the rest of the year.
MKE: Right. You’re an intelligent guy with humble roots, and a proud Wisconsinite. Marquette grads are…from an entirely different world.

No, he's not Tim Tebow.
Russell displays nowhere near the obnoxiously public piety that Tebow did.

Honest question about Tebow
One that I’ve seriously considered for the last couple years. How much of our collective hate for Tebow emanates from his relationship with Urban Meyer? Certainly the holier-than-thou persona ruffles feathers (and a similar Leave it to Beaver-esque cleanliness kept most of us from embracing Peyton Manning until his SNL appearance). But at the end of the day Tebow was a smash-mouth running back with a left arm that could complete West Coast passing routes. If not for Meyer (named after a Pope), his association with Notre Dame (the rumor mill had him going there before he replaced Zooker), and the whole lobbying effort after the ’06 edition of Michigan-Ohio State, I think our view of Tebow would be different.

Used Tebow as an example b/c he was so hyped
Certainly not a fan. Personally, my distaste for Tebow stemmed from the constant flood of publicity about him more than Meyer. There are a lot of great stories and players in college football but it was a constant Tebow love fest for 4 years. Simple fatigue.

I get that, and I’m largely of a similar perspective. And Tebow didn’t exactly try and shy away from the spotlight, instead using the platform he was provided to advance his own agenda. I’m just curious to what extent our perception of Tebow has been further tainted by his association with Meyer (who played a fairly unabashed role in hyping #15), whose simple image causes me convulsions.

My Issue with Meyer
What I don’t like about Meyer is that, like Saban, his bunker mentality represents all I can’t stand about hyper-focused people. There’s more to life than a football team or your law practice or whatever the hell else. As Meyer showed with his retiring monkey business, he has little perspective on anything else. Could you imagine being one of his kids? I guess I just define success differently than Urban Meyer.

I truly believe Tebow is as good a person as advertised.
But after having my face scrubbed with his awesomeness for his entire college career, I certainly got tired of it.

As an MSU fan living in Central Illinois, I like seeing these shirts around Champaign
I know other schools use these same slogans. but there’s something about the obnoxious orange that I especially love.

But can some UI fan please explain this strange fascination with hating UM?

It's because
They used to be good. In fact, several people who don’t pay close enough attention often mistake them for still being decent (see ND game and the subsequent D-tard love fest afterward). It’s almost kinda mean for Illinois to pick on them.
