Marcus Coker Leaves Iowa
Well, this sucks. Mracus Coker, 2nd team All Big Ten running back and workhorse for the 2011 Hawkeyes, is leaving. He's been on suspension since mid-December due to "a violation of University policies."
His back-up, Mika'il McCall, announced his departure 10 days ago. In 2010, Sophomores Brandon Wegher, Jewel Hampton, and Adam Robinson all left the Hawkeyes program for personal and/or disciplinary reasons.
For a school that runs an offense geared around the running back, running back attrition should not be this big of an issue. Yet, for the second straight year, Iowa will enter the 2012 season with only one running back who has ever received a start on the roster. In 2012, that will be Jordan Canzeri, the tiny, true Freshman who started the Insight Bowl.
[UPDATE: Pat Vint takes on the role of mortician on the careers of the last 14 running backs to sign to play at Iowa. None of them has made it to his Senior season.]

I could eat this stuff all day long. DEEEEEElicious.
And the Iowa RB curse continues.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
Purdue fans jumped in unison to celebrate this latest blow to their most hated rival, and then….
/collectively snapped their ACLs

Hey, at least Tom Bradley might be heading there ;)
But seriously, that sucks. Given, it’s Iowa, so you’ll probably pop in another RB, but yeah, that’d be really annoying.
If Penn State fans and alumni truly believe that chant that echoes throughout Beaver Stadium ("We are....") then it's time to show it.

Does Iowa have a Scholarship RB left?

Two halfbacks (maybe three)
One is rising Sophomore Jordan Canzeri, who is a scatback. Perfect for third down. He won’t last three weeks if he has to cary 25 times a game. The other is D’Andre Johnson, a rising Junior who is built like a bowling ball but lacks speed.
Finally, rising Sophomore Damon Bullock was moved to WR during the season. Maybe he moves back.

That's what we call a 'lack of depth'
What’s the recruiting picture look like? Did KF get a ‘start now’ type of kid in this class, or have priorities now switched to that?

There is a 4 star from PA
who now looks like an opening day starter. I suspect that there will be 2-3 more schollies for RBs. There better be.

Don't sweat it
I’m 90% certain he’ll be gone by August. After all, he’s reached two years in Iowa City, his life clock has turned red

…is remaining on the team after two years, if you’re a running back.

AIRBHG strikes again
Seriously, these are the most hazardous jobs in the world:
1. Spinal Tap Drummer
2. Vietnam Tunnel Rat
3. Iowa Running Back
4. Smokejumper
5. OB-GYN for Lindsay Lohan

Rec'd for Spinal Tap reference
You know, several, you know, dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It’s just not really widely reported.
Seriously
Is this like eight or nine RB’s leaving the program unscheduled in the last 3 years? By unscheduled I mean early entry, transfer or injury.
Well
It’s 5 in 16 months. I think it’s 9 since Shonn Greene (2008). Might be more. Some names wash out so fast…

Great... so we enter the 2012 season with...
…tOSU on a post season suspension.
…PSU wishing everyone would go away.
…Wisconsin with a stripped coaching staff.
…Iowa without a credible experienced RB.
…Purdue as a credible division champ contender.
…Purdue as a credible division champ contender (yes, that was worth repeating)
…Illinois with a new head coach (OK – maybe this last one is a good thing)
Good luck to the Sparty-tSUN-Nebraska winner in the 2012 Rose.
Proud proponent of the 52 team Uber Conference
You may be right
Since Iowa coughed on Nebraska and gave us the “Ha Ha You Lose to Northwestern” bug, it’s probably the MSU-Mich-NU winner.
Iowa, you can keep whatever is wiping out your RB’s. No one deserves that virus, not even you. But…you can keep it by all means!
psst…quick…someone call the Feds and quarantine Iowa City.

there's valid reason to be nervous in evanston
we lost several experienced players from our defense…. and we’re not changing coaches on the defensive side.
on offense, we’re losing dan persa, drake dunsmore (fantastic TE), and 2 4year starters on the line.
we’ll reload at qb with kain colter, trevor siemian and possibly redshirt freshman zach oliver.
its still too early to tell how we’ll do, but I hope we can make another bowl this year

would have jumped town for Madison by now. Lord knows the ground is much more fertile there

…PSU wishing everyone would go away.
Really, because I love Bill O’Brien, as do most Penn State fans.
the dude’s sexier than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tim Tebow combined, and a better Orator than Barack Obama.
On a serious note, most Penn State fans are looking to the future now. Anybody who isn’t has been blanked in what feels like the first time the fan base has been truly united since…. well, 1994. People are excited about a real gameplan on defense, and the coaching staff taking advantage of the talent we have on offense (So, probably not McGloin starting). 2012 can’t get here fast enough.
If Penn State fans and alumni truly believe that chant that echoes throughout Beaver Stadium ("We are....") then it's time to show it.

Wasn't much of a problem
But the scheme we ran got destroyed when good QB’s had time to plan for it, and didn’t make many QB’s pay for their mistakes. It was hard to score on it, but ultimately, the weakest point of Penn State (The non-athletic safeties) was also probably the key part to the base cover-3 succeeding, and we rarely had those, so it was less effective than it should’ve been.
Given, that should be different next year.

Pretty much
I witnessed the beatdown that Wisconsin put on Penn State to end the season. Needless to say, better QB play seldom results in a 38-point loss on the road…
If Penn State had bothered to field a competent QB that day, they might have kept it to 14-21 points. It’s not easy to beat Bielema on Senior Day (he’s 6-0 in that regard), and Penn State’s defense still had no answers for Montee Ball, but with the way the Penn State offense had played all year long, the Nittany Lions were out of contention the second the Badgers put up their 4th TD.
