Beyond the Empire's Gates: Your BCS Championship Open Thread

Yeah, you don't like it. It's two SEC teams. Worse, it's two SEC teams coached by men who once coached in Michigan. But we know that you'll watch it. How do we know? Because it's your last chance to watch college football until September.

Representing the state of Alabama...

So, quit pouting about the SEC getting too much love. When the B1G produces teams that can beat LSU or Alabama, they'll get that love, too. We didn't do it this year. We have in the past; we will again. Maybe soon. Maybe very soon (that's called foreshadowing, kids). As for your drink of choice, I recommend this. It is referred to as the bitterest brew in the land. My recollection of it from a night in 1997 is that it should fit the mood of non-SEC fans perfectly tonight.

...and representing the state of Louisiana.

If you're new here, welcome. We've only got a couple rules, so consider this our legal disclaimer. We have a pretty hefty legal department here at OTE, so don't cross us on this: No racism, sexism, homophobia, pornography, personal attacks, politics, religion, or illegal Internet streams of any games.

It is sort of weird to know

That this will be the final game for a bunch of these players before getting kicked out to a JUCO school. One of the reasons I’m not watching.

GAME OF THE CENTURY!!!

Part Deux

So now Minnesota has rivalry trophies with a school riddled with meth and athlete-run drug houses, a campus that keeps Alcoholics Anonymous and Layne Bryant stores in operation, "that which will not be discussed" at Penn State and now Michigan is kissing it’s little brother. Great.

I don't support the SEC

Or the BCS. Or Oversigning. Or Saban. Or grass-eating. Or ESPN.

Therefore, I’m only switching in occasionally just to check scores…I refuse to give them any indication of ratings.

This game sucks. Especially LSU’s offense OMG!

by Lesterh on Jan 9, 2012 8:32 PM CST reply actions

Holy crap he made one.

by Lesterh on Jan 9, 2012 8:32 PM CST reply actions

Team of the century I think not.

by Lesterh on Jan 9, 2012 8:39 PM CST reply actions

Just checked in at half-time

Chip Kelly is on the set, and you know he’s thinking his team would have a a couple of scores on the board right now. So would Oklahoma St, Stanford, and probably Boise St. as well. Hell, Michigan St. Michigan and Wisconsin would likely have scored a TD by now.

Another kick fest

Turned it on right for most of the 2nd quarter… Got sick of it, got on the computer, and figured an old campy movie (Youngblood) would be more entertaining.

This game is terrible

Hopefully that was Jefferson’s last play of the night. Just awful.

The Essssss-Eeeeeee-Seeeeeee

Kicking the ball better than anyone else in six National Championships!

They have two liter bottles now? To think I spent all that time demanding a liter!

Looks like I was right...

Bucky had a better shot against LSU than than he did versus Oregon.

The card says go for two... On Wisconsin!

Things I learned tonight from Herbstreit/Musberger
  1. Aussie punts are just as exciting as touchdowns (if not more)
  2. “Honey badger” is endlessly fun to say even when you are 127 years old

we got our ass whooped by Alabama in Capital one bowl

but this LSU offense is raising the ante and is in complete panic mode.

by spartynation on Jan 9, 2012 10:01 PM CST reply actions

Yep, that was exactly the wrong opponent for the Badgers.
Penn State scored 11 points on this team, and LSU hasn’t gotten past the 50…

And stop saying Honey Badger for Christ’s sake.

Question

Where does this Alabama defense rank among the all time greats? LSU averaged more than 30 points per game. They can’t cross midfield. Awesome.

THey’re pretty awesome, but LSU’s playcalling is abysmal. And Jefferson sucks balls.

I know Bama's team will lose a lot of seniors and Richardson to NFL/graduation

it will be fun to see Denard Robinson and UM against Alabama in Dallas in 2012

by spartynation on Jan 9, 2012 10:09 PM CST reply actions

Sabah will have all summer to gameplan...

And devise a trick defense to stop Denard arm-punt 50/50 deep ball. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

by Has No Left on Jan 9, 2012 10:14 PM CST up reply actions

Alabama is making LSU look like Youngstown state

Michigan be careful when u say UM is back. This Alabama team is playing better defense than the detroit lions NFL team.

Hey SEC

In last years bowl game, MSU scored more points on Alabama than your champion did in 2 full games plus OT. We don’t want to hear any more about SEC dominance. Got it?

by James Rinkevich on Jan 10, 2012 8:44 AM CST via iPhone app reply actions

So they tied it up 1-1

Is this best of three, or best of five?

(Sorry I just emerged from ESPN’s wet dream)
