I posted a similar question in the Penn State versus Michigan game post game thread. As a biased Penn State fan, I have noticed that Big Ten football officials rarely if ever call holding against the opponents of the Nittany Lions. This was especially evident in the Michigan game and last year's Ohio State game. It becomes a big problem when the opposition has a scrambler at quarterback like Ohio State's Braxton Miller and Michigan's Devin Gardner. I am sure that Penn State gets away with holding, too but it isn't as obvious. Penn State's offense is geared towards getting rid of the ball quickly. Rarely if ever does Christian Hackenberg scramble around. It's on the scrambles that the hold are really obvious. My question to you, other Big Ten fans is, am I the only one that sees this? What teams are the worst perpetrators when it comes to holding? Is there favoritism in the Big Ten? Do Ohio State and Michigan get away with it because of who they are? Or am I just a paranoid fan? I don't have time to watch many games that don't involve Penn State so I really cannot speak about how other games are called.
