Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, but it is smack in the middle of the long dark days of winter for college football news. That’s not a good thing because I would like something to distract me from work when I sit back down at my desk on Tuesday. Therefore I have come up with an idea, let’s all discuss the stories behind our screen names!
Like all good ideas, this idea was blatantly stolen, in this case from Christopher Gates over at The Daily Norseman; who just revealed he may of accidentally stolen it from a fanpost from a certain FelBanana (with a screen name like that I assume he have must often fail to successfully peal a banana). Despite having obtained this idea via larceny, it’s still a good idea; at the time of this writing the post on the Daily Norseman has 677 comments. Let’s outscore those pro fans.
So let me get started. My screen name is Norsk_Gopher. My mother is from Norway and despite being born in Minnesota to an American father, I actually hold dual-citizenship. Norsk is the Norwegian word for Norwegian (although technically I should have used Nordmann instead of Norsk….but there is another story behind why I didn’t. So that is the first part. Second part is that I am a fan of the Gophers. I never went to the University of Minnesota but as the home team I have just been a fan for the last 30 years or so. But them together and add an underscore between them and you get a……..Norsk_Gopher.
So the story behind my name isn’t the complex or that interesting but I’m willing to bet some of yours are. For instance, Ted Glover, where the heck did you come up with that screen name?
