OTE has become one of the greatest blogs in the history of blogs, which is a long history that goes all the way back to the 1860s. It was during Sherman's March to the Sea (aka. the emasculation of the Southern male, which directly lead to douchey southern frat culture under the guise of "Southern exceptionalism" but is really just another way of saying "we got our asses beat and now we cope by acting rich even though we're not because we dont have slaves anymore, which really bothers us so we sink our passion into whiskey, tailgating, and MRS candidates, and then graduate and realize how miserable our lives are and then begin drinking excessively and beating our wives"... and)... shit... where was I...
Oh yes... blogs... started by General Sherman himself after he once told a boy from Zanesville named Danny to "write down the most descriptive narrative you can of my triumphant March to Atlanta as it happens and send them to all of the great newspapers of the North so that the world may know just how badly I am beating up on these douchers. I would instruct you to send them to the Southern papers as well, but I will instead save you the postage, because we know those hicks can't read."
Early in the journey, Sherman and his troops joyously drank whiskey and mockingly sang "My Old Kentucky Home" in front of a blazing mansion in Richmond, KY. Danny wanted to fully capture the emotion of the event, but couldn't. He approached a whiskey-bent General Sherman and asked, "Oh great Northern warrior, my idol, my liege, how do I put into words such an awe inspiring sight? How do I convey these emotions?". General Sherman put his arm on the young lad's shoulder. And with drunken breaths that could have fueled a Fulton engine, he said with a heavy slur "Blog, Danny". Years later, expert linguists fluent in "1860s Ohio drunk-speak" interpreted this to mean "be the log, Danny". Consistent with this translation, records show that young Danny from Zanesville suited up and joined the fight himself, all the while still recording the events for the Northern newspapers in frequent daily letters which he called "blogs".
The above may or may not be true.
Well shit, that story went long and I'm well above my minimum requirement for word count. Whatt I meant to say was that OTE is awesome, and what sets it apart from other blogs (which may or may not have been a term coined by General Sherman) is that the readership genuinely helps drive the site. People come here as much for the interaction with the regulars as anything else.
So I propose we all meet up for a tailgate one weekend. I can get my hands on an RV and a tent and could provide a layout for a pretty decent size tailgate set-up. Perhaps the B1G championship game? If not, how bout a Northwestern game since Evanston would be pretty central for most of us? State your desired location, date, and probability of attending below.
