A couple of things worth nothing: 1) This does, indeed, stem from the well-publicized 2009 incident. 2) There has been no further word on whether Taylor Lewan, who allegedly threatened the victim with further violence if she reported Gibbons, will receive any further disciplinary action or investigation. 3) Gibbons has already exhausted his eligibility and completed his bachelor's at Michigan, but was still enrolled as a graduate student. 4) The language in the university's letter to Gibbons does not perfectly overlap with Michigan's definition of rape, referred to here as criminal sexual conduct, but it's pretty close with the exception of the standard of proof. 5) I'm sure the discussion will be measured and level-headed. We anticipate some heated feelings, but please keep a measure of decorum.
