Back to back bowl appearances not enough to save job

Danny Hope has been fired, according to multiple outlets on the Internet.

Hope took over for famed 'basketball on turf' coach Joe Tiller, but had a hard time living up to the standards Tiller set, going a mediocre 22-27 in four seasons.

During Hope's tenure, Purdue football took a step backward. Although the Boilermakers are going to a second consecutive bowl, the writing seemed to be on the wall after five straight losses to open the conference schedule, to include ugly blowouts in 4 of those games, and an epic meltdown against Ohio State. As expected, the three game winning streak to get to 6-6 wasn't enough to keep Hope alive.

WR Coach Patrick Higgins, who has been calling the plays the past three games, will be the interim coach for the bowl game. There is a press conference scheduled for 6:30 ET.
