This is just a quick reminder for those of us who are fans of the 11 members of the Big Ten (You're still a pledge until July, Huskers). Based upon recent polling, we seem pretty enamored with the Huskers. I guess I get that. But let's slow down for just a quick second and take a look at what they've actually accomplished under Bo Pelini.
Now I will not contest that Nebraska has played some fine opponents. Each of the last three years, they've played the Big XII Champion. They also played the ACC Champion in 2008. Of course, Nebraska lost all four of those games. Let me repeat that: Nebraska lost all four of those games.
In fact, over the last three years, there have only been three 9 win teams that Nebraska beat: hosting 2008 Western Michigan (oooo...MAC), hosting 2010 Missouri (same team that mid-pack Iowa beat on a neutral site), and at 2010 Oklahoma State. Those three wins are paired with their NINE losses to teams who won at least nine games. That's right. When facing good competition, Nebraska won thrice and lost nine times. Nine Times. NINE TIMES.
For contrast, Ohio State (pre-redacting) has 8 wins over nine-win opponents. Iowa has six. Penn State has five. Even Michigan State and Northwestern have three. And of that list, only Penn State is counting a victory against a MAC team.
So yeah, Nebraska is a nice addition. But let's not give up the ship just yet. We'll be providing Nebraska with some pretty good opponents. And recent history has shown, they don't fare so well when that happens.
