You can't overstate this. This game was everything. It was undefeated #1 versus undefeated #2 in the regular conference schedule. That's only happened five times in the history of college football. When you add in the hatred between Michigan and Ohio State, the passing of Bo Schembechler during game week, and the ABC/Disney hype-machine, this game was turned all the way to 11. Ohio State took an early lead and held off a second half surge by Michigan for a 42-39 win. It's not hyperbole to say that by doing so, Ohio State won the B1Ggest Game in Big Ten history.

Unfortunately, they lost the bigger game that followed, as Florida stomped the Buckeyes 41-14 in the BCS Championship Game. Ohio State's seemingly predestined place among the greatest teams of all time was wiped out in an evening. Michigan wouldn't fare any better as they were humbled by USC 32-18 in the Rose Bowl. A meme was born that bowl season, and it would have plenty of food to feed it in the next two seasons.
