Spanning The Empire: Your Saturday Morning Open Conference Thread

Happy Saturday to you.  I wish we could be gathering together to talk about some highly anticipated games this week, but I'm not going to tell you that.  Why?  Well, other than Colorado, the B1G has something akin to last year's MAC-rifice Saturday.  It's a hodgepodge of I-AA (no, I will never refer to them as FBS and FCS...ever) and mediocre non-AQ conference teams that just make you shudder and give you a sick feeling that starts in your bowels and goes all the way through your eyeballs, much like the feeling you get when you imagine yourself with Woody Harrelson's landlord from Kingpin.

There is a very intriguing game for the Bloody Mary and Scrambled Eggs crowd, though, as San Diego State comes calling to the Big House.  The Aztecs were last coached by Brady Hoke, and in an interview with Jason Whitlock on foxsports.com a couple of days ago, he said that when he took over SDSU, he built the team to win this specific game.

And they might.  Michigan has played well, but not consistently well for an entire game, and I think this will be a bigger challenge than Notre Dame was.  SDSU is a good team, with a balanced offense and a sound defense.  Last year, they were 19 points from being undefeated, and although Brady Hoke knows that team, it's just as fair to say SDSU knows Brady Hoke.  I'm genuinely looking forward to this game, and a convincing win here by Michigan and I'll start getting on the bandwagon.  The early games schedule:

Time (CST) Visitor Home TV SBN Blog
11:00 Central Michigan Michigan State ESPNU The Only Colors
11:00 San Diego St Michigan BTN Maize n Brew
11:00 Eastern Michigan Penn St ESPN 2/ESPN 3 Black Shoe Diaries
11:00 LA-Monroe Iowa BTN Black Heart Gold Pants

Come on in and have a seat.  If you're new to our game threads, the rules are pretty simple: No racism, sexism, homophobia, pornography, personal attacks, or illegal Internet streams of any of the games.  We've got burgers and brats on the grill, beer in the fridge, and some hot wings from Hooters.  The legal minds are in the other room discussing the legal merits of the 'finders keepers losers weepers'.  Enter at your own risk.

Enjoy the early games, and we'll be back with and afternoon/evening thread later today.
