Yesterday the 2012-2013 All-Big Ten men’s basketball teams were announced on the Big Ten Network. To no one’s surprise, Trey Burke was named Big Ten POY, Bo Ryan was named COY and Gary Harris was named FOY. Here’s a comparison of the coaches vs. media vs. our selections at OTE:

CAPS denotes that these selections were unanimous.
Aaron Craft being voted first team by the media comes as a surprise considering he has more than a few "offensive deficiencies." No one can dispute he’s a great defensive talent with exceptional acting skills (and rosy cheeks) but is he better than Payne or Hardaway? Questionable.
And at what point do we stop handing Bo Ryan COY honors because he’s "winning at Wisconsin." As boring as Bo-Ball is, as ugly as Wisconsin’s players are, they’re consistently a very good team. It’s not like Bo Ryan is constantly rebuilding with below average talent. He’s built that program to where it is and they’re achieving what they should be. COY honors are usually given to coaches who do something out of the ordinary. Bo Ryan is doing what he’s been doing for the past ten years. So how is COY appropriate for him? Why not give it to Crean, who has finally gotten Indiana back to where they’re supposed to be?
And why doesn’t the Big Ten hand out awards for flopping? Or coaches who are the most dickish? Or most egregious use of the term "athlete" when you have a fat guy at center?
