So who is the top B1G MBB squad this year?

Now that we are down to just one game left for each school, the standings in the B1G have morphed into 3 tiers:

Top: Indiana, Michigan, Mich St, Ohio St and Wisconsin

Middle: Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa and Purdue

Bottom: Nebraska, Northwestern, and Penn St

Conventional wisdom (rankings) has Indiana and Michigan above the other three, if only slightly because of better non-conference records. But in conference each school has been fairly equivalent. For discussion sake, let's assume that Indiana loses at Michigan, and Michigan St, Ohio St and Wisconsin all win their finales. Let's take a peek at the records if this occurs

Indiana would be 4-3 (2-2 H, 2-1 R) against the top teams (missing a road game in Wisc), 5-2 (3-0 H, 2-2 R) vs the middle (missing a home game vs Illinois), and 4-0 (2-0 H, 2-0 R) against the bottom (missing jNW at home and Nebraska on the road)

Ohio St would be 4-4 (3-1 H, 1-3 R) against the top (missing no one), 4-1 (3-0 H, 1-1 R) vs the middle (missing home vs Purdue and road at Minn and Iowa), and 5-0 (2-0 H, 3-0 R) vs the bottom (missing Penn St at home)

Michigan would be 3-4 (3-0 H, 0-4 R) against the top (missing Wisc at home), 6-0 (3-0 H, 3-0 R) vs the middle (missing Minn at home and Iowa on the road), and 4-1 (3-0 H, 1-1 R) vs the bottom (missing Neb on the road)

Michigan St would be 4-4 (3-1 H, 1-3 R) against the top (missing no one), 5-1 (3-0 H, 2-1 R) vs the middle (missing Iowa at home and Illinois on the road), and 5-0 (2-0 H, 3-0 R) vs the bottom (missing Penn St at home)

Wisconsin would be 3-3 (2-1 H, 1-2 R) against the top (missing Indiana at home and Michigan on the road), 4-3 (3-1 H, 1-2 R) vs the middle (missing Purdue on the road), and 5-0 (2-0 H, 3-0 R) vs the bottom (missing jNW at home)

To me, Michigan St and Ohio St played the toughest conference schedule. But Indiana is the only one to notch 2 wins away from home against the top teams, but also lost the most home games. Michigan is great at home, but terrible on the road, record wise. Wisconsin had the easiest path of the 5.

So in my eyes, I would rank them in order: Michigan St, Ohio St, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Now watch Indiana win on the road and blow this whole post out of the water. If Indiana does win, I'd change the order to: Indiana, Mich St, Ohio St, Wisconsin and Michigan.

What say the fellow B1G brethren?
