WHAT THE HELL: Andersen to Oregon State

Gary Andersen will leave Wisconsin to become head coach at Oregon State.

The Portland Tribune is reporting that Gary Andersen will leave Wisconsin to become the head coach at Oregon State, replacing Mike Riley, who departed for Nebraska earlier this week. From the website:

Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen has been selected as the successor to Mike Riley as Oregon State's football coach.

Andersen, head coach of the Badgers for the last two years, was chosen from a group of five finalists.

Andersen, 50, will be introduced at a press conference in Corvallis on Friday afternoon.

He was to meet with his Wisconsin players Wednesday


Andersen took over at Wisconsin in December 2012, replacing Bret Bielema. He also has served as a head coach at Utah State (2009-12) and Southern Utah (2003). And he spent three years as defensive coordinator at Utah, one with the Utes' 2008 team that went undefeated and beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. afternoon to announce his decision to move to Corvallis. The Big Ten Badgers (10-3) are scheduled to play Auburn in the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl at Tampa, Fla.

He is a native of Salt Lake City, and played two years of football at Utah.

Riley left Oregon State last week to become head coach at Nebraska.
