Week 2 Preview: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Florida International Panthers

New, comments

A win is a win is a win.

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Who, Where, When: The Hoosiers welcome the Panthers of Florida International into Bloomington for a showdown under the lights. Kickoff is at 8pm on BTN, with Chris Denari and Chuck Long on the call. FIU comes into the game also 1-0, having defeated Central Florida 15-14 on September 3rd. IU and FIU have never met on the football field, though IU is 13-7-2 all-time against schools from Conference USA.

Numbers of Note: 8, the number of IU players suspended for the opener against SIU who will be available this week. Tegray Scales received a two game suspension and will also miss this game. 145, the number of rushing yards Jordan Howard accumulated against SIU last week in addition to his three touchdown carries. 395, the total number of yards Nate Sudfeld contributed to the Hoosier offense last week, just three short of his career high. 6, the number of Big Ten teams who did not win their game last week (unlike Indiana).

Fun Facts about FIU: FIU hosts the Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival annually. One of their libraries is also believed to be haunted. FIU can also be seen in some scenes from the television show "Burn Notice."

Notable FIU Alumni (spoiler: there aren't many): T.Y. Hilton (current Indianapolis Colt), Andy Garcia (actor), Carlos Arroyo (former NBA player), Mike Lowell (former MLB player)

Prediction: With what had better be a more reasonable defense than what we were presented last week, I think Indiana is going to roll FIU. The offense has already figured out some answers to the major questions that existed on that side of the ball, so now we (as ever) need the defense to get itself together. Indiana 49 - FIU 13

Next Week: Western Kentucky comes to Memorial Stadium for an afternoon kickoff, and I will be in attendance, which is more than can probably be said for the Indiana student section.
