Week 6 B1G Afternoon Open Thread

It’s time for OSU-Indiana, MSU-BYU, and oh god no not purdue-illinois whyyyy

NCAA Football: Michigan State at Indiana Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Well, now that brave Penn State has pulled off the heroic upset and Iowa and Minnesota are done murdering offensive football, what say we watch a couple games with the potential for offensive fireworks? We’ll even give you a new thread to do it in.

C/P’ing Jesse’s thoughts from earlier:

B1G Games

BYU Cougars @ Michigan State Spartans || 2:30PM Central || ABC/ESPN2

Line: MSU -5.5 || O/U: 49

I said this in the picks column, but like... this just seems like an awkward game. Both teams are sort of mediocre and while each has a win that maybe says they’re good, I wouldn’t bet on either having a stellar season. That said, I expect BYU to make this close because that’s literally all they do.

Indiana Hoosiers @ Ohio State Buckeyes || 2:30PM Central || ESPN

Line: OSU -28 || O/U 60

This will most likely be carnage because that is what the Buckeyes do. Sorry Hoosier bros.

Purdue Boilermakers @ Illinois Fighting Illini || 2:30PM Central || BTN

Line: Illinois -10 || O/U: 53.5

It’s the next stop on the “Why does Darrell Hazell have a job” tour! I’m taking the Illini because I honestly believe Purdue is somehow worse than they’ve been in a while. I’m not sure how that’s possible, but again, here we are.

Michigan Wolverines @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights || 6PM Central || ESPN

Line: Michigan -30.5 || O/U: 53

This will most likely be carnage, but hey, at least it’s in PRIME TIME!

Top 25 Games

#6 Houston (-15.5) @ Navy || 2pm CT || CBSSN

This is my plug for CBSSN. I’ve been very impressed with, for what’s considered a budget sports network, how college-centric the broadcast is. Rick Neuheisel was pretty decent on the call for WKU-LaTech, too.

#9 Tennessee @ #8 Texas A&M (-7) || 2:30pm || CBS

The Vols’ luck finally runs out today, right? It’s got to. Gig ‘em.

#25 Virginia Tech (-2.5) @ #17 UNC || 2:30pm || ABC/ESPN2

#21 Colorado @ USC (-6) || 3pm || PAC12

#1 ‘Bama (-14) at #16 Arkansas || 6pm || ESPN

fap fap fap fap fap fap fap ‘bama.

go bert.

#5 Washington (-10) @ Oregon || 6:30pm || FOX

#23 Florida State @ #10 Miami (-2.5) || 7pm || ABC

For as much as the narrative seems to be “Florida State’s defense isn’t that good,” Vegas sure seems unwilling to give Miami any credit. Then again, the way this season’s gone, this feels like a pity 10.

Arizona @ #24 Utah (-9.5) || 9pm || FS1

Wazzu @ #15 Stanford (-6.5) || 9:30pm || ESPN

PACtion after dark LET’S GET WEIRD. I mean, David Shaw’s idea of “weird” is a couple spoonfuls of Nesquik in his glass of skin milk or a little shake of pepper on his plain chicken breast with steamed broccoli, but Mike Leach can bring enough for the both of ‘em. Go ‘Cougs.

The Other Stuff of Note:

Iowa State @ Oklahoma St (-15) || 2:30pm || ESPNU

Army @ Duke (-5.5) || 2:30pm || ACCN

Vanderbilt @ Kentucky (-3) || 3pm || SECN

NIU @ ROW ROW ROW (-3) || 5:30pm || CBSSN

Syracuse @ Wake Forest (-4.5) || 6pm || ACCN

Cal (-13.5) @ Oregon State || 8pm || PAC12

Utah State (-5) @ Colorado State || 9pm || CBSSN

UNLV @ San Diego State (-15.5) || 9:30pm || ESPNU

UCLA (-9) @ Arizona State || 9:30pm || ESPNU

Hope y’all are enjoying your day. I’m likely off to Urban Harvest Brewing Co. to take in the afternoon games with some delicious craft beer in hand. Feel free to join me.

Reminder: ABSOLUTELY NO racism, sexism, homophobic talk, porn, or illegal streams. It’s a good Rivalry Day and that’s awesome, but don’t be a jackwagon. We cool?
