Big Ten Bowl Projections, Week 7: The Two-CFP Team Debate Rages On

New, comments

Could two teams from the Big Ten make the College Football Playoff? Even better—could they both be from the same division?

Usually there’d be a disclaimer here about how projecting bowl games in early October is stupid...but we’re starting to get to the point where teams have played half their games. So take these all with a grain of salt in the meantime, but...y’know, keep an eye out, I guess.

B1G Thoughts:

  1. Aaaaand just like that, we’re back to debating whether Penn State and Ohio State can both make the College Football Playoff. This would, presumably, presuppose Ohio State winning the Big Ten East and Penn State going 11-1 with only a loss to Ohio State. Can we see that happening?
  2. And would a 12-1 wisconsin team get left out?
  3. Despite the projections being virtually the same, we just have to place Michigan State fourth. Seems more likely it’ll rain in Orlando or Tampa, though, so maybe that’s a good thing for Mark Hollis’ weather machine. [New band name, called it.]
  4. Because you know the Holiday Bowl organizers want Michigan-Stanford. Just throw away your TVs now, folks.
  5. If I’m an Iowa fan (besides looking at my life and the choices that led me to that point), I’m hoping for an East Coast trip, because matchups with Stanford and Oregon...don’t seem ideal.
  6. Nobody’s more chaotic this week, though, than Purdue, as prognosticators can’t decide if they’re for real and headed to the Outback Bowl, or a nice story that’ll be happy to turn up in Detroit.
  7. On the flipside, if Maryland can get to 6 wins, they’re headed to the Pinstripe Bowl. They’ve got three wins, and need to beat all of Northwestern, Indiana, and rutger to get there unless they can spring the upset of Michigan State or Michigan. Unfortunately, none of their projected ACC matchups are actually that exciting.
  8. Minnesota was supposed to beat Purdue and Maryland to help them get to 6 wins... But the projections appear to have remembered thanks to succeeding academically, Gophers only need 5 wins to succeed athletically in Detroit.
  9. Indiana: Possibly shitty, possibly in the Gator Bowl! Who knows with #CHAOSTEAM.
  10. Oh my God, if there’s actually a Northwestern-Florida matchup in the Music City Bowl...they don’t show that game on TV, do they? They can’t. That’s an O/U of 22.
