Ohio State Will Lose To Iowa, Probably.

And that’s ok

Football, like life, is a series of highs and lows. Using Ohio State Football as the example, no one thought the Buckeyes would make the playoffs after the loss to Virginia Tech in 2014. Not only did they make the playoffs, they won the title with a backup QB, no less. In 2015, they returned much of that championship team and everyone thought they would win it all. Instead, the Bucks dropped a game to Michigan State at home.

C'est la vie.

On to this season. Ohio State hosted an Oklahoma squad that they beat in convincing fashion in Norman the year before. Most people thought Ohio State would win. Baker Mayfield planted the OU flag at the 50. Or would have, if it wasn’t for field turf.

Buckeye fans were calling for J.T. Barrett’s job after the loss. The season was over, they reasoned. Even though he led the regular season comeback in 2014 and the win against Michigan before his injury, he wasn’t the QB for the playoffs, so he had not proven himself, they said.

Number 2 in the nation Penn State came to the ‘shoe this season, and there were a lot of predictions for a Buckeye win. Almost all of them were centered on the defense. J.T. Barrett might possibly do enough to win the game, they thought.

His stat line. 33 for 39 passing, for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 95 yards. Penn State had the number 1 defense in the nation coming into the game. Of course that doesn’t tell the whole story. Barrett completed 13 of 13 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

You may fool yourself into thinking there has been a better 4th quarter performance by a QB in college football history.

I respond with brother Neil.

I’ll be honest, it’s Wednesday night, and I still had to Google to see who the Buckeyes play next. I mean, I knew. I have the magnets on the fridge, the dates written in the planner. I just forgot. That’s the wave I am riding. Because I really don’t care. 13 for 13 in the fourth quarter a few days before Halloween in a huge comeback against the team you lost to last season. You can’t make this stuff up.

J.T. Barrett has cemented himself as one of the greatest QBs in B1G history. The rest of the season, at least in that regard, is irrelevant. Kirk and company could use a big win and he seems to make it happen when that is the case. I am sure there are plenty of Buckeyes like me, that are still enjoying the win and not really thinking about the next game. The actual players are probably overlooking the Iowa squad. I am not. I know they will pose a test. I just don’t care.
