Now that we have a weekend of basketball behind us, it’s time to look at how everyone’s basketball stock is doing. But it’s only been one or two games, you say? Well, that’s never stopped an investor from overreacting, right?
Wisconsin Badgers - A couple of comfortable wins including one over a KP Top 100 team. Bucky starting out strong is a good thing. Now comes a couple of challenges with Xavier and Baylor inbound.
The following took care of business versus vastly unimpressive teams. Congrats on your tuneup.
Minnesota Golden Gophers - To be clear, you’re on thin ice, Gophers. Winning by 15 at home to South Carolina-Upstate does not instill confidence.
Ohio State Buckeyes- Beating up on Robert Morris was a good way to start. Struggling with Radford was not.
Michigan / Michigan State - What did the Fighting Ospreys of North Florida ever do to you guys?
Penn State Nittany Lions - Campbell gave you a bit more than I expected, but you righted the ship and blew out whatever Fairleigh Dickinson is.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights- We need to have a chat. It’s one thing to schedule a D3 team to start your season, but really, those need to be taken care of in the exhibition season. Then, a 4-point win over a CCSU team that’s one of the worst in the country isn’t going to garner any respect. As far as I’m concerned, you’re in junk bond status until you beat someone with a pulse.
Indiana Hoosiers - Well, well, well, what have we here? A 21-point blowout loss to your littlest of little brothers. Then came the “rebound” game against Howard and the result, a 10-point win. This is definitely a rebuild job for Archie Miller.
Northwestern Wildcats - That wasn’t pretty, was it? Welcome to expectation-ville. You’ve had ‘The Year’. Now, you’re one of us. Time to act like it.
Illinois Fighting Illini- I tried to watch some of the game against UT-Martin, but my eyes started bleeding and my 4-year old wanted to watch some cartoons, so I relented. A 3-point win over UTM doesn’t warm the cockles of my heart. Nor does it help your early-season stock.
Nebraska Cornhuskers- Eastern Illinois, 4-point win. Yikes. Riley might not be the only one cleaning out his desk at the end of the season.
