We’ve got some very important news, but first we need to talk about that Deadspin article

Yesterday afternoon the sports blog/buyer of Baseball Hall of Fame votes Deadspin published an article accusing SB Nation of existing in a “legally gray area” by “exploiting” its underpaid employees. I won’t link to the story here because I have good reason not to (accidentally closed the tab), but it was harsh.

Don’t worry about us “writers”. We peacefully worked things out with management. We definitely didn’t march to OTE manager Graham’s house last night and demand collective bargaining. We absolutely did not steal all his booze during negotiations, and any rumors that we traded away our overtime pay in exchange for a 10 foot party sub at the next meeting are false. We’re all good here.

Our real issue with the Deadspin article is the baseless accusations it made about our content. They claim that SB Nation, and by extension Off Tackle Empire, “offers little daily editorial guidance beyond deleting and apologizing for the racist, misogynistic, homophobic, or otherwise unacceptable posts that occasionally appear; that potentially exists in a legal gray area”.

Let me be the first to say that this is complete garbage. We at Off Tackle Empire work very hard to bring you some of the best, most hard hitting and tactful journalism in sports. I can promise you that those jabronies at Deadspin have never visited Off Tackle Empire because if they had, they would have already retracted that hateful article. We stand by our work and are proud of what we do here. If there’s one thing people come to OTE for it’s our professionalism and our consistency as a bastion of writing excellence.
