Where We Be, What We Be Drinking: Week 1

FOOTBALL IS BACK BABY!

Congratulations everyone, we made it to week 1! Let’s go around the country and see what our lovely “writers” will be up to this weekend.

Creighton M: I got my hands on some Founders DKML for week 1. I’m going to try my hand at making chicken and waffles for a kickoff brunch, then I’ll probably head to Random Row Brewing for the afternoon games. Let me know if you’re in the area and want to grab a beer or five.

Dead Read: Dead Read will be luxuriating on the couch during the first weekend's festivities. I will be eating enchiladas and drinking coke. I will fervently pray that Nebraska does not get embarrassed. Good coffee will be a part of my plan.

Candystripes for Breakfast: I will be racing home from work Thursday to watch IU-OSU, and hoping that the improbable finally happens. As the state of Indiana tends to frown upon drinking and driving, I expect some sort of carbonated cola beverage, likely with a cherry or vanilla flavor (if the Speedway across the street from work hasn't run out of both, which has happened before), will be consumed during the drive. As for Saturday viewing, work til 5, then OTE until games end.

Andrew Kraszvdskgsdjgsfski: I will be in Springfield, MO to meet my baby niece for the first time and begin her Spartan indoctrination. The brother is a craft beer enthusiast, so I'm sure he'll have all manner of quality brews available.

87 Townie: I will be planted at a bar, probably the Salty Pelican, with a basket of wings and draft beer because Football Is Back!

MNWildcat: Camping along the Mississippi in La Crosse. I'm not very happy about it, either, but I'll have lots of Coors, we'll head over to the Pearl Street Brewery at some point, and I won't have to watch it remain infuriatingly close against Nevada.

Graham: East Lansing, Michigan. Spartans. BGSU. Ready for a beautiful day full of tailgating and wonderful friends.

WhiteSpeedReceiver: By the time this is posted, I'll be a puddle. It's supposed to be low 70s for the Thursday night opener against Buffalo at Historic TCF Bank Stadium, and I'll have drank myself liquid celebrating either a comfortable win or an uncomfortable win. Much Grain Belt and Jameson will have been consumed. If anyone wants to come make sure I didn't slide into the River down at the flats, I'd really appreciate the help.

GoForThree: Boston, MA parenting and enjoying a frosty beverage or three. I may also eat the remainder of my birthday cake directly from the box.

[editor’s note: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GF3!!!!!!]

LincolnParkWildcat: I'll be at a wedding in the Chicago suburbs. I'll be drinking whatever's at the open bar.

DJ: I'll be at home in Southern Maryland, drinking whatever is easily at hand. I may drop by the liquor store this week and see if any fall beverages have come in yet to enjoy on a rainy Saturday binge watching football.

Thumpasaurus: I will be on my couch in Rochester Hills, MI. I've been feeling under the weather lately, so I'll be drinking the only cold remedy that doubles as a celebration: Jägermeister. Though I'm prepared to, I'm hoping not to echo my video recap of the first half of last year's Western Michigan beatdown...which was just me chugging Malört from the bottle.

Thomas Speth: I'll be bartending in Oshkosh. Over/under on number of times I get flashed is 3 since it's move in weekend. I'll be drinking all of the Rumplemintz shots because it's appreciate when you're drunk but have minty fresh breath.

StewMonkey13: I'll be attendance at legendary, historic, motherfucking, Kinnick Stadium. Tailgating starts at sunrise. Can't be drunk all day if you don't start in the morning.

BigRedTwice: I'm working all day, but luckily, Nebraska has a night game, so I'll be catching a bus across town after work and hopefully walking into the stadium by kickoff. Consequently, I won't be drinking much of anything, except coffee and water, and hopefully Nebraska doesn't make me regret that.

Aaron Yorke: It's easy to get to work early when the Penn State game kicks off an hour before work. The adrenaline rush of the first half should carry me for a couple of hours, but later it will be time for coffee. And when it's too late for coffee... we're switching to Diet Coke, baby! Hoo ha!

Thursday should be more fun, though. I’m either going to be at BTN’s Kickoff Party near Madison Square Park or drinking beer at home. Will I watch Ohio State vs. Indiana on the big screen or use my laptop to watch the game and Bachelor in Paradise with my girlfriend at the same time? The suspense is too much for me.

Brian: It's going to be an eventful autumn for me - I'll be attending games in Ann Arbor (three games), Tempe, Los Angeles and Pasadena. I'll be passing on making the trip to Dallas this weekend, however, and will instead ease into the season by staying home in sweltering Los Angeles. But I will be tuning in to see if youth is served in Jerryworld where Michigan tangles with Florida.

What about the rest of you guys? Let us know where you’ll be and what you’ll be drinking (and/or eating) in the comments!
