The latest AP poll was released today, and 4 Big Ten teams made the cut. Topping the list, the Purdue Boilermakers at number 3, sandwiched between Virginia and Oklahoma. The Boilermakers received a first place vote!
The next B1G team are the Michigan State Spartans, who dropped from 4th to 9th because of their loss to Michigan and struggles against the mighty Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The Ohio State Buckeyes cracked into the top 25 at number 22, while their nemesis the Michigan Wolverines did the same at 23.
The 4 ranked teams was good enough for third place, with the ACC and Big 12 both getting 5 teams ranked. The SEC and Big East each had three.
In the streaky nature of basketball, the plight of Michigan State doesn’t worry me. Purdue looks pretty darn good and is positioning themselves for a potential number 1 seed, while Ohio State and Michigan have moved from bubble teams to potential NCAA locks, as long as they don’t have melt downs. While certainly some other teams will crack the NCAA tournament, I think most are predicting a light turnout from the Big Ten.
