The Kelsey Mitchell Era Comes to an End at OSU

For those of you that don’t know, she was pretty good.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament-Ohio State vs Maryland Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

The Central Michigan Chippewas knocked off the Ohio State Buckeyes in St. John Arena tonight to advance the MAC squad to the sweet 16, while the home team Buckeyes ended their tournament run.

I fully accept most of you here don’t follow women’s college basketball, and that’s a shame. It’s fantastic. However, since the Buckeyes lost tonight, it must be said that the career of Kelsey Mitchell is over. She is one of the greatest basketball players ever.

Her career accomplishments read like a video game. 3 time B1G player of the year. Probable 4 time All-American. 2nd all time leading scorer in NCAA women’s history. She is kind of a big deal.

However, it isn’t just her stats that tell the tale. Anyone that watches her for 5 minutes realizes she had “it.” She played defense, she could pass, she has a savvy you just can’t teach.
Going into the NCAA tournament this season, she held 16 OSU records, 8 Big Ten Records, and 4 NCAA records.

I am really going to miss watching her play.
