This afternoon Ohio State placed Head Football Coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave while an investgation takes place into what he knew, and when, about domestic abuse allegations against former WR coach Zach Smith. Smith was terminated by Ohio State on July 23rd.
Earlier this morning college football reporter Brett McMurphy blew this story wide open by posting an article on Facebook featuring an interview with Courtney Smith, the ex-wife of Zach, that included graphic pictures and text messages with Shelley Meyer, Urban’s wife.
At this time, we don’t know who knew what and when they knew it, and Meyer's fate as coach of the Buckeyes depends on those answers. Athlon’s Bryan Fischer noted that there were some clauses in regards to reporting assault added into his contract when it was extended in April.
It should go without saying that there is nothing funny about domestic abuse, and we here at OTE hope that the investigation gets to the bottom of this horrific situation.
