Michigan State’s Nia Clouden was named the USBWA Freshman of the Week, based on her 27 point performance against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Fellow teammate Jenna Allen, herself a USBWA Player of the Week in week 2, also had a big game against the Hawkeyes, grabbing a career high 17 rebounds. In a Big Ten that has 4 ranked teams and Indiana lurking just outside, the Spartans announced themselves contenders with that win over Iowa.
But this is Nia Clouden’s week. She is more than just that one amazing game. She is averaging 13.3 points and 4.8 assists on the season. The Owings Mills, Maryland native is second on the team in scoring and has already shown great leadership at a young age. Brian Calloway, of the Lansing State Journal, wrote about her impact ability in early November. You can read that article here.
Allen, Clouden, and company are sitting at 11-1. As conference action hits full swing, it is time to discuss how we think is going to hoist the Big Ten trophy. I personally am leaning toward Michigan State, and I am not just writing that because Spartan fans are the most likely to be “reading” this article. Let’s put it to a poll!
