Welcome back to the B1G Stock Market Game. No changes to the format for this year, but hot damn do I have an exciting idea! I was trying to think of ways to get people investing in actual good teams when it hit me, stock dividends. I'll post a poll below (because we all already know who had the worst week) to gauge interest, and will fine tune my thoughts if you shareholders agree.
If you're new to the article, join us! Just be careful about investing in rutger...
The Rules
- Start with an initial investment equal to the average of all current investors. This week, that’s 403 Delaney Dollars ($403DD).
- Select team stocks to buy.
- After the week’s games, sell, hold, and/or buy for the next week.
- Max number of any one team’s shares that you can own is 50.
Team stock value comes from Teamrankings.com. The value of each team is the inverse of their current rating (out of 130 FBS teams), so team #2 costs $129, #6 costs $125, #129 costs $2.
What Teams Should I Invest In?
Buy low, sell high. Or vice versa. Buy shares of your own team, or feel all greasy by buying shares of your rival. While nobody can perfectly predict The Formula, team ratings are pretty much based on their game results, their opponents, and their opponents’ opponents.
Some players diversify, and others go heavy on one stock. You’ll find your niche. If you don’t like the dartboard method, you may want to check out Dead Read’s B1G Stock Report.
This Week

Some definite gains being made out there. Overall, the Index gained about 3%, bringing our average over the $400DD mark. Well done, those of you who do not have 47 goddam shares of rutger. Those of me who were stupid enough to buy that many saw my stock lose close to $100. Be smart, read this:
New week, same story: Investments in rutger will kill your portfolio. Three weeks running, but the sentiments remain exactly the same. Another double digit decrease in value. Sigh.
If you're not copying nym.psuedo every week, well, I guess that's a good thing. You'd be richer than you are if you did, though. The good times continued to roll for Purdue and Minnesota, each gaining over 10% value. Illinois was obviously the biggest gainer at 34%, which propelled Mochila03 back up over $500, and whersmyelephant over $450. Congrats!
Onto the non-winners. It me. Like already said, I got 47 shares of rutger, and rutger dropped 20%. FML. Northwestern is ass, as well, to the tune of a 12.8% fall. MK Mastadon and HoustonBoiler are approaching double digit net worth, might actually get there with a Liberty victory this weekend. Good luck!
The opening bell has rung, here are this week’s stock prices:
Illinois 55; Indiana 96; Iowa 115; Maryland 86; Michigan 118; Michigan State 111; Minnesota 99; Nebraska 79; Northwestern 75; Ohio State 130; Penn State 125; Purdue 80; rutger 8; Wisconsin 126
