Big Ten Championship: Picks and Predictions for Ohio State-wisconsin

NCAA Football: Wisconsin at Ohio State Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

#1 Ohio State Buckeyes (12-0, 9-0 B1G) vs. #8 Wisconsin Badgers (10-2, 7-2)

Big Ten Championship | Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
7pm | FOX | OSU -16.5 | O/U 56

BRT: I think it will be closer than last time, but that doesn’t mean close. I don’t think the outcome will be in doubt. That said, it would be kinda OSU-ish to blow this at the worst possible time.

beez: I wouldn’t pick Wisconsin against the spread for anything less than -30. In the first matchup the Badgers sacked Fields 5 times, got to play in bad weather, held the OSU offense in check for the first half, and still lost by a million. Indoors, with the OSU Death Machine in peak form? No way I’m taking Wisconsin only +16.5

WhiteSpeedReceiver: Barring injuries to Justin Fields and J.K. Dobbins (and even that may not be enough with Teague ...), this one will be beautiful. There’s a very real chance that we’ll find out how absorbent the Lucas Oil Stadium turf is as it deals with ALL OF THE BADGER BLOOD!

Thump: Ohio State rolls. Tell me what’s different from last time? Nothin.

Stewmonkey13: OSU gonna want to keep ahold of that #1 ranking to avoid LSU and Clemson until the championship game. As such, we’re looking square at 59-0. It’ll be beautiful.

MNW: One of the under-talked about things (at least around here; I don’t read Bucky Pravda or whatever the madison newspaper is actually called) in the wisconsin offense has been the slightly increased pass-catching role for Jonathan Taylor—I’m really marveling over that catch-and-score against Minnesota. If the badger offensive line can buy Coan a little time from Chase Young, could a couple screens or misdirections be the answer?

Ultimately this is all Just Asking Questions—the Buckeyes have the vastly superior talent, particularly in the WR-vs-DBs matchups, to burn wisconsin, and they should roll. But I’ll at least give my kudos to the oddsmakers: When I thought “I’m gonna pick this game!” I had OSU covering, by something like 35-17 (I came to that independently, you’ve just been on OTE too long). The O/U at the time was 52.5, and that felt low. It’s ballooned to 56, as has my pick: Ohio State, 41-17.

Boilerman31: Make no mistake. This will not be a good game. I expect nothing but Gus Johnson yelling, “JK! ALL DAY!” no less than 15 times during the broadcast. Unless GF3 messages me and tells me he’s laying the points. Then we’re all screwed and the SEC will find a way to put 3 teams into the College Football Playoff.

Writers’ Verdicts:

Ohio State, 11-0 (straight-up and ATS)
O/U (taken at 52.5): Over, 10-1

MC ClapYoHandz: I look around Columbus and I don’t see what Ryan Day has for Chryst. Personnel, schematics, the neutral site, they don’t have an answer for what Chryst is bringing to Indianapolis.

I see fans talk about the first matchup and I tell you it is irrelevant. Chryst took his bye week and he righted the ship and took names. Iower, Minny, Nebrasker, Purdoo, all laid down.

They cannot simply bottle up Taylor, Chryst is miles ahead of that. Maybe a series, a quarter, a half, but it’s a long game and Chryst has unveiled advanced concepts no one has answered. At some point they will guess wrong, Chryst will make them pay, and it’s over.
