Beezer07: There are some actual good games on!
Right you are, beez! So let’s get a quick recap of the week, and off to two excellent matchups tonight on FS1! Here are your talking points:
- Maryland 70, Northwestern 52: ‘Cats dreams dead; can’t rebound.
- Michigan 65, Ohio State 49: More of the same from Wolverines.
- wisconsin 62, Nebraska 51: Wheels off in Lincoln; Huskers can’t shoot.
- Rutgers 66, Indiana 58: Fire Archie after two years? Possibly, say lunatics.
- Minnesota 86, Illinois 75: Revenge is a dish best served cold (get it? It was like, -25 out).
- Purdue 99, Penn State 90: WAHHHH REFS CALL FOULS WAHHHH
#5 Michigan Wolverines (20-1, 9-1 B1G) at Iowa Hawkeyes (16-5, 5-5)

Stewmonkey13: Iowa has improved over last season quite a bit, but is still about where they were 2 seasons ago: a very bubbly team. And while Iowa has avoided the bad losses this year, they’ve also failed to gain that signature win (no, Iowa State doesn’t count).
For a fanbase that pining for a something to get excited about this win would go a long way. I’m not sure we get there, though.
Since hiring a defensive specialist as an assistant, Michigan has been gangbusters on that end of the floor. They also do a great job of controlling the tempo, which Iowa will want to push, but Michigan basically abandons all pretense of offensive rebounding to get back on defense, which drastically cuts down on fast breaks. That’s a bad thing for the one thing that Iowa is great at.
Iowa’s going to have to win this at the free throw line, and again, not fouling is something Michigan is excellent at. This is just an all-around bad match-up.
Creighton M: Beating Michigan at home would do wonders for an Iowa fan base growing weary of road game struggles. The game is sold out, so CHA might actually have a halfway decent atmosphere, at least until the under-8 media timeout where all the fans leave to beat the traffic.
The Hawkeyes might have a fun night if they’re able to keep the tempo of the game up and throw Michigan off their methodical rhythm. Iowa thrives off of forcing teams into foul trouble, but I doubt they’ll be able to do that against Michigan. Iowa needs to make sure they don’t let the Wolverines go on big runs, because Beilein ball is slow as hell and it’s hard to make a comeback against that.
I’m tired of playing teams from Michigan this year.

#21 Maryland Terrapins (17-5, 8-3) at #24 wisconsin badgers (15-6, 7-3)

DJ Carver: This game really depends on which Maryland team shows up: the team that forgot Bruno Fernando existed when they played Illinois or the team that went to Fernando to start every possession against Northwestern.
If it is the latter, I think MD pulls the win in Madison.
beezer07: This strikes me as a game Wisconsin needs more than Maryland. During the 4-game winning streak, Wisconsin has beaten one very good team and three very bad (or for Nebraska, recently playing badly) teams. A win over a team like Maryland would be good for the resume, good for the national attention, and good for the “we just played like three weeks ago” revenge.
Last time they met, Wisconsin scored like 13 points in the first half, got down by 22, and then missed two wide open threes in the waning moments of the game to juuuuuust missing pulling out a ridiculous comeback. I fully expect Wisconsin to score more than 13 in the first half this time, but I also don’t expect them to shoot 60% from 3 in the second half.
This should be a close game, featuring two of the best big men in the country, and I expect it to be very close.
which gross red thing
