Lots to do today if you’re a Big Ten fan looking to keep up with your various spring teams. What will you be watching?
NCAA Softball Tournament
We mentioned the NCAA Softball Tournament yesterday—click here for full brackets and previews of each Big Ten-related Regional—and asked whether this was a sign that the Big Ten was on the rise.
It sure looked like it Friday, as the Big Ten took five of its six matchups, including a couple wins in the 2v3 matchup that I think you’d qualify as upsets. Regional hosts Minnesota, Michigan, and Northwestern cruised, while Ohio State tripped up North Carolina and wisconsin held off a Notre Dame hit parade to nab the win. Only Illinois took a loss and has the double-elimination bracket to navigate.

Baseball — Last Day of Conference Play
Eight teams make the Big Ten Conference Tournament, and three teams—Ohio State, Maryland, and Northwestern—are deadlocked for its last two spots, while Michigan and Indiana’s race for the conference title goes down to the last game.

Indiana took two of three from the Wolverines, I assume Michigan will have to win and get a Hoosiers loss against Rutgers (lol). Congrats to Indiana on their title. For the seventh and eighth seeds, I talked my way through what I think is the tiebreaker, but I have no actual idea.
Their head-to-head records:
- Northwestern 3-0 Ohio State
- Ohio State 2-1 Maryland
- Maryland 2-1 Northwestern
The only result that doesn’t see Northwestern through is the ‘Cats and Maryland losing and Ohio State winning. I think. You’ll have to watch these on BTN+ unless you’re Indiana and Rutgers—they’re on BTN at 11am CT.
NCAA Lacrosse Tournament
Maryland and Northwestern are alive in the quarterfinals. You’re not surprised. Bracket here.
- #4 Northwestern vs. #5 Syracuse (1pm CT, BTN2G0)
- #1 Maryland vs. Denver (6pm CT, BTN)
Let us know what you’re watching. I’m about to go get very wet in Fargo, which is not nearly as fun as it sounds. Go ‘Cats, win ‘em all.
