“We feel good about what we’ve done in the off-season.”
“We’ve got some great recruits coming in.”
“Our guys look great in shorts, but we’re excited to put the pads on.”
“I am Lovie Smith, head coach of Illinois football.”
You could hear all these things—AND MORE!—today and tomorrow if you tune in to Big Ten Media Days at the Hilton in Chicago. Each team—consisting of its head coach and three or four player representatives—will take the podium over the next two days, giving their updates and thoughts on the 2019 season. It might be exciting!
It probably won’t be, though, unless Tim Beckman shows up and starts talking about lasagna. Let’s hope.
Here’s your open thread to talk about the various levels of coachspeak, the ridiculous ties and excessive number of lapel pins worn by PJ Fleck, and whether Scott Frost and Nebraska will even make it to the conference:
Coach Scott Frost and the Husker players are delayed getting into Chicago this morning. The Nebraska charter flight landed in Peoria due to bad weather in Chicago. The Husker schedule could change at Big 10 Media Days. pic.twitter.com/JRjHWrcUH0

Anyways, be sure to follow us on Twitter @offtackleempire and join in the discussion below in the comments! Here’s the schedule:
The Vitals
- TV: Big Ten Network (duh)
- Time: 12:00-1:45pm Thursday, 8-10am Friday (coaches’ interviews); 2-6pm Friday (media desk interviews with players and coaches)
- Length: Each coach has 15 minutes to duck questions about why recruiting is bad or he hasn’t won the Big Ten East or he lost Paul Bunyan’s Axe to Minnesota for the first time in a decade and a half. After his press conference, the coach will meet with reporters for another hour.
- Players: After their coach’s interview, the three players will have a one-hour breakout session.
The Teams
We’ll give you the coaches the players, and what time the coach should be taking the podium. This is, however, not taking into account that Nebraska is getting there late. Will Lovie Smith go earlier? Will some Big Ten bureaucrat take the podium for 15 minutes and vamp for time? THE DRAMA.
Shout-outs for the best player inclusion at #B1GMediaDay:#PennState: P @blakegillikin #puntingiswinning#Gophers: H @caseyob14 @MinnSpecialists
