Welcome back to the B1G Stock Market Game. If you were like me, you bet heavily on Northwestern and it bit you right on the ass! But you're back, we're all together, and maybe we can forget about how our purple friends laid a steaming pile on our portfolio. If you're new, jump on in! Can't do worse than the rest of us...
The Rules
- Start with
a 510 Delany Dollar ($510DD)an initial investment equal to the average of all current investors. This week, that's $433DD. - Select team stocks to buy.
- After the week’s games, sell, hold, and/or buy for the next week.
- Max number of any one team’s shares that you can own is 50.
Team stock value comes from Teamrankings.com. The value of each team is the inverse of their current rating (out of 130 FBS teams), so team #2 costs $129, #6 costs $125, #129 costs $2.
What Teams Should I Invest In?
Buy low, sell high. Or vice versa. Buy shares of your own team, or feel all greasy by buying shares of your rival. While nobody can perfectly predict The Formula, team ratings are pretty much based on their game results, their opponents, and their opponents' opponents.
Some players diversify, and others go heavy on one stock. You’ll find your niche. If you don’t like the dartboard method, you may want to check out Dead Read’s B1G Stock Report.
This Week
An amazing week for the Indiana Hoosiers has put hotshot newcomers 87RAS and nym.pseudo out in front (and their good picks caused the initial investment to change from a flat $510DD to a current average). The Hoosiers jump a whopping 12.8% after dismantling UConn. Other winners were bobby1927 and PrarieDogLongnamer who gained a healthy 4.5% on Minnesota's bye week. Minny wasn't the only idle team to rise, as Penn State benefitted from a sPitt win and Buffalo defeating Temple (lol Maryland opponent quality). The Formula is always unpredictable, though, perhaps best displayed with Purdue rising after their performance against TCU.
Not all is peachy, as I mentioned above. Northwestern dropped a staggering 15% in one fell swoop, while in-state rival Illinois fell 4%. To the shock of millions, buttger, already at rock bottom, persuaded Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck to dig their hole 18% deeper!
The opening bell has rung, here are this week’s stock prices:
Illinois 46; Indiana 88; Iowa 109; Maryland 112; Michigan 113; Michigan State 116; Minnesota 68; Nebraska 97; Northwestern 74; Ohio State 130; Penn State 120; Purdue 70; Rutgers 23; Wisconsin 127
