One uniform for a whole season: What would you choose?

Pretty simple, no? Your Big Ten team can wear one (1) helmet-jersey-pants combination for the entire season. What do you choose?

We were bored.

Well, aren’t we all?

I posed a simple question as I watched a couple old highlight clips of Northwestern from the mid-90s (and thought about this old article of mine on the best NU color combos):

If your team could only wear one uniform (helmet-jersey-pants) combination for the entire season, what would you want it to be?

I’ve just straight-up included writers’ responses:

Illinois Fighting Illini

Thumpasaurus, going through something and thus taking this even less seriously than usual: The ones from 2015 because...better things aren’t possible.

Losing a game at Soldier Field to Northwestern is the definition of malarkey.

Though if I really had to choose I would go with the grays, because they are very risk averse and that is the most important thing to be.

Indiana Hoosiers

Candystripes: These, but with the chromestripe helmets.

Because tell me that look would not rock a night game. You can’t.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Stewmonkey13: One all season? The gimme the current home unis: black jerseys, gold pants, tigerhawk.

Though I’ve also always wanted current tops with black pants, and then a chrome gold helmet with a mat black tigerhawk.

Maryland Terrapins

BrianB2: Probably this, but maybe change the helmets to the white scripted ones from the early aughts:

DJ Carver: Agree with Brian. But if I had to choose another:

I like the more classic uniforms. Don’t like all the keep-changing bullshit

Michigan State Spartans

Andrew K: Green helmet, white logo, green jersey, white pants.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Chrome Maroon Maroon

Nebraska Cornhuskers

Jesse Collins: like the current home unis for Nebraska. Red shirts, white pants, white helmets, red N. Nothing too fancy but I think it looks great.

Dead Read: Same. Stick with the classics. Also a fan of traditional road unis—red pants, white jersey. All white is baaad juju—we call them the “surrender whites.”

BigRedTwice: I agree with my Nebraska colleagues! That bold, bright red and crisp white pant against green turf just always looks great.

Northwestern Wildcats

MNW: So I will disagree with DR just on the color scheme, insofar as I love Northwestern’s Storm Trooper whites. The purple pops, the lightning-walrus helmet is excellent, etc.

But it’s not my choice for #1 Northwestern uniform.

As was pointed out to me last summer, while Fitz may prefer the throwback purple-black-purple, you’ve got to go with the main color in some decent quantity. I am between the purple-white-purple and the black-purple-black combinations, most recently used on the road at Stanford and at home against UNLV, respectively.

With that in mind, give me the purple-white-purple look. The white ‘N’ on the helmet might be what did it for me—there’s more of a visible identity this way.

Penn State Nittany Lions

As if there’d be any other.

Purdue Boilermakers

Boilerman31: Give me the early Joe Tiller Era unis before Nike came in and fucked everything up.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

ZuzuRU: I honestly loved those chrome helmets (and I know many did not)...

This 150 uniform is a throwback for the ages. Best uniform of all CFB in the last 25 years, it’s not even close. Too bad they went with a trash season.

Have thoughts on these choices or the absence of Michigan, Ohio State, or...wait, wisconsin? Beez never fucking logs off!

Chastise those writers and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Update: Thankfully, WSR is always ready to lend a helping hand to the wisconsin “writers” by sharing what was clearly the finest uniform choice in recent memory:
