Big Ten Football CCG Week 13 Picks, Predictions, Previews

We've been here before, haven't we?

NCAA Football: Big Ten Championship-Purdue vs Michigan Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Season's over. All that's left is a football game in which one team, ostensibly one of the best in the Big Ten, is even money to not score a point in the first half and even money not to score a point in the second half.

Tomorrow will be the beautiful farewell to the last team standing in the Big Ten West, the Iowa Hawkeyes. There is certainly a chance that they do Iowa things, get a punt return for a touchdown if they remember how to not illegally signal, return an interception for a touchdown, and drag the Michigan Wolverines into the slop of a 14-13 victory.

There is, though, the entirely more real possibility that they get slowly strangled by a team pretending that its own misdeeds makes it America's team.

Now that I think about it, perhaps that is the most apt summation of America's team there could be.

About Last Week

* Must have picked half the games to qualify

  • BoilerUp89 7-0 against the spread! Not bad for a guy who’s just been waiting for basketball since September.
  • The writers staff went 49-28 against the spread this week. If we could do that consistently there’d be some income opportunity there.

Not so kudos-y:

  • Nothin’, really. We done good!

And with only one game remaining, we can declare champions!

Your champion writer picker-type-people are Thumpasaurus (ATS) and Lincoln Park Wildcat (Straight Up). The podiums (records don’t include this game):

Against The Spread

  1. Thumpasaurus 56-35-1 (.615)
  2. BuffKomodo 58-39-2 (.596)
  3. HWAHSQB 47-32-2 (.593)

Straight Up

  1. Lincoln Park Wildcat 50-10 (.833)
  2. HWAHSQB 71-15 (.826)
  3. (tie) RUready4Brazil 68-16 (.810), RockyMtnBlue 85-20 (.810)

Oh Yeah. There’s a Game This Week

Saturday, December 2

(2) Michigan Wolverines vs (18) Iowa Hawkeyes

7pm | FOX | Michigan -23 | O/U 35.5

Straight-Up: Michigan 9-0
Against the Spread: Michigan 6-3

Look at all that lovely yellow.

WSR: There are no winners in this game. There are only cheating losers and the actual losers.

Kind of...: Not with a bang, but a whimper. More in sorrow than anger. There are numerous other sayings that would be appropriate too. Bottom line: the B1G West is ending, and this is probably how it had to go out.

AlmaOtter: We can at least console ourselves with the fact that the CCG tends to be a pretty miserable slog. Can’t imagine this one will be any different. What was the last time this game was actually entertaining or interesting? Maybe Penn State’s comeback over Wisconsin in 2016? Northwestern covering the spread in 2020? 2023 Iowa is a perfect champion for the last year of the West, but I don’t think that’ll go very far in Indy.

RockyMtnBlue: Michigan’s last three games have been one-score games. This is partly on Sherone Moore, who’s done a great job, but has just a little more late-stage Lloyd Carr in him than I’d like. Harbaugh is back on the sideline, but the Big10 West can drag anyone into the mud, and Iowa is their King. I don’t think Michigan loses this game, but it’s ugly, stupid, and low-scoring. Just give me what I’ve been asking for for 16 years: a Rose Bowl appearance against a Pac12 team. 25-1 in Big10 play the last two years. Zero Rose Bowls. OLD GODDAMN BOWL SYSTEM! Michigan 18-5.

Larry31: C’mon Big Ten West Champ. Do your thing. Make it a 10-3 rock fight with lots and lots of punts, so the entrie nation can appreciate the unintentional comedy that is the Big Ten West.

MNW: This has all the makings of what I described above -- Iowa's defense holds stiff through a few drives, gets a pick-six or huge special teams play, and takes a lead like 7-6 into the half.

I'd prefer to just watch Michigan walk away with it 23-3 or something, but let's say Michigan, 19-7.

Michigan won’t cover 23pts because there won’t be 23 points in this game. But they do win.
