Friday Bowl Game: UCF-Georgia Tech in the Gasparilla Bowl—Live Open Thread!

YOU get a 6-6 team! and YOU get a 6-6 team! and YOU! get a 6-6 team!

Hi. There are bowl games happening tonight. And while I am a firm believer that there aren't too many bowl games, uh...

South Florida Golden Brahmans (6-6) vs. Syracuse Orange (6-6)

Boca Raton Bowl (FAU Stadium)
Thursday, 7pm | ESPN | Syracuse -3 | O/U 55.5

MNW: You could’ve given me the first nine letters of USF’s coach’s name and I still would’ve told you it was “Alex Goleski” or something. The only notable thing the Golden Brahmans did in 2023 was hold Alabama to 17 points in that 17-3 Tide victory that had no repercussions for anyone. Their wins were over Florida A&M, Rice, at Navy, at UConn, Temple, and Charlotte; those FBS teams finished a combined 20-40.

Syracuse has Nunzio Campanile and a redshirt freshman quarterback starting in place of Garrett Shrader. They won two ACC games, against bottom-feeders Wake Forest and Pitt.

I will be hosting bar trivia at a brewery in the North Metro instead.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-6) vs. UCF Citronauts (6-6)

Gasparilla Bowl (Raymond James Stadim, Tampa)
Friday, 5:30pm | ESPN | UCF -5.5 | O/U 67.5

MNW: Today I learned that UCF did not bother to play the War on I-4 for the first time in a decade. They did, however, play the first Big XII version of what Wikipedia claims is a “rivalry” with Cincinnati despite the entire series having no rivalry-worthy moments?

At least Georgia Tech was college football’s chaos team for the first half of the season.

I have no idea what will happen in the George O’Leary Bowl—other than he’ll be doing the coin toss, which is fun. I hope he can add this to his resume.
