Michigan State Spartans 92, Penn State Nittany Lions 61

I’m sorry Penn State

Minnesota Golden Gophers 73, Michigan Wolverines 71

MaximumSam: Look at Minnesota! Dawson Garcia’s brief injury seems to have unlocked the team. Five guys scored in double figures and the Gophs snagged a road win over the hapless Wolverines. Speaking of, not all bad for Michigan. It is theorized that the football team draws life from the basketball team like a succubus, so a basketball loss is a good sign for Monday.

BoilerUp89: Michigan falls to 1-5 in games decided by five points or less this season. It is also being rumored on the internets that this was Dug McDaniel’s final home game in a Michigan uniform (academics is the rumor). I guess we will find out once the new semester starts at Michigan.

#11 Illinois Fighting Illini (11-2, 2-0) at #2 Purdue Boilermakers (13-1, 2-1) (-10.5), 7:30 pm, FS1

MaximumSam: Well then, here we are. Barely a week after Terrence Shannon was suspended due to pending rape charges, the Illini feature in one of the biggest conference games. It’s still an open question what they are without him, though they had no problems in their one Shannon-less game and put a whooping on Northwestern.

Still, going to Purdue is a different animal. The Illini do have a couple things that could give Purdue issues - they have a lot of size on the perimeter and guard the heck out of everything. They also get up and down the court, which could impact Edey’s impact on the game. Still, they don’t force many turnovers and while they have beef inside, they don’t have a ton of height. Torvik goes Boilers, 84-72.

BoilerUp89: Big time game featuring two AP top 10 teams. The Illini guards will give Purdue’s guards some matchup problems, but Edey offers a matchup issue at the other end. Whichever team exploits their mismatches best will win.
