Happy Saturday! And welcome back to our weekly Where We Be, What We Be Drinking column, where we head to the metaphorical tailgate, pull back the curtain, and find out what everyone does on gameday.
Let’s get to it and let us know what you’re doing in the comments below!
BoilerUp89:
Cincinnati. Oktoberfest beers and avoiding the annual beating from wisconsin
You can try to avoid it, but the beating will find you.
Dead Read:
Downtown Lincoln, dream living, etc.
Keep on keepin’ on, brother.
LPWildcat:
Evanston, drinking daisy cutter and anti-hero
Good choices!
BuffKomodo:
Cincinnati. Water as I’m trying out sober October. Will likely be easier to be sober this football season than the others. Will observe and report back.
Is water Cincinnatonian for Oktoberfest? Good on you, let us know how it goes.
AlmaOtter:
Columbus, OH, looking immensely forward to yelling at Iowa fans about their shitty corn. Drinking crafty beer if I can find it at the stadium, drinking overly-priced Miller Light if not.
Are you really going to respond to your own blurb, AO? Yeah, why not.
Go find the automated bacon machine at Ohio Stadium, self!
misdreavus79:
I’ll be home. I’ve recently been convinced to try NA beers, and there are some quality options out there!
Athletic Brewing IPAs are quite good! The stouts, less so. But NA Guinness is like 95% of the regular thing.
thumpasaurus:
if i’d given you my position last week it wouldn’t have been accurate. i was supposed to be in portland in my friend’s wedding. which is where i was last week! but i came down with covid and had to come home saturday morning. got home just in time to watch penn state keep illinois at arm’s length for 3 hours. anyway, it hasn’t gone away yet. so i’ll be at home again. drinking orange juice. so much orange juice. this was my vacation in 2024. like. the only one i had planned. HOWEVER! i gave my friend the ultimate gift. a marriage blessing the likes of which the world has rarely seen. divine intervention caused me to not attend his wedding, which was to take place exactly at kickoff time of a fighting illini football loss. which means his marriage avoids my curse.
You have been struck down and laid low, but for a good cause. Get better soon, buddy.
Brian Gillis:
I’ll be in Central California this weekend, roaming around one of my favorite places: Santa Barbara County. I’ll sneak in some football here and there, and will definitely catch the rematch of last year’s national championship game, but my focus will be on sampling the region’s many wines.
MNW:
Minnesota. Probably at the zoo with the in-laws, because it’s the MiL’s birthday next Thursday and that means we need to provide her hours and hours of access to us and our daughter this Saturday (despite the fact that she watches the kid every Thursday! whatever)! And just as I thought “OK, gotta go, time for Wildkit’s naptime” would be a sufficient excuse, she guilted my wife into letting her come over that afternoon to do gardening while Wildkit naps! So I’ll be sober with a baby monitor for the ‘Cats game. Have a few old Point beers laying around for later. Might just find a bottle of vodka and go to town, though.
We’ll need an update on Wildkit’s favorite animal and whether both of you survived the day.
HWAHSQB:
Putting on the ole lederhosen and heading to Schells Brewery for Oktoberfest. In case it isn’t obvious, I’ll be drinking Schells Oktoberfest.
Prost! Hast du ein pretzel? Oder kase?
RUReady4Brazil:
I’ll be in Charlotte, NC with my son and his 102 degree fever. But at least we have playoff baseball, NHL, and college football. So other than leftover Pedialyte, I’m drinking some Copper Ale thing I bought for a Brazilian party last week that nobody drank. Silly Caipirinhas!
Oof. Hope the little scarlet knight is recovering well. Both of you get at that Pedialyte, and avoid the shitass Mixed Fruit flavor. Tastes like garbage. Also, pro tip: LMNT is the jam for sickness, hangovers, or chronic POTS. I’ve never had Cachaça, but I’d definitely try it.
I hope you’re already at the tailgate and having a great time—if not, tell us where you’ll be and what you’ll be drinking! As always, send in your tailgate/sailgate/home setup to alma.otter91@gmail.com and we’ll add them in through the day.
